5. Mount Beerburrum

Mount Beerburrum is located in the Glass House Mountains National Park in Queensland, Australia. The hike to the summit of Mount Beerburrum is approximately 3.4km return. The hike is moderately challenging, with steep sections and uneven terrain. Hikers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Glass House Mountains, forests, and coastal plains from the summit.

There are picnic areas, toilets, and parking available at the base of Mount Beerburrum for visitors.

4. Wild Horse Mountain Lookout

Wildhorse Mountain Lookout one of the easier hikes yet offers breathtaking views at the top. It is a fairly steep but short 700m walk up to the lookout.

3. Mount Tibrogargan peak

This one is definitely not for the faint hearted! This 3.4km return climb takes you right up to the peak of Tibro, with breath taking views of the surrounding glasshouse mountains, and even a view of the ocean. If you look closely, you are able to see the sky rises from the Sunshine Coast on your left, and Brisbane city to your right! There's a steep section at the beginning of the ascent up the mountain that locals like to call 'chicken rock'. Although this is the steepest section, it gives you a good taste of what's to come, and like the names suggests, it is the spot where most people chicken out.

What to bring:

  • Make sure you have grippy shoes!! This one is an absolute must! It is a long way down.

  • Bring snacks. Protein bars and jerky are my go to.

  • Bring a friend. Especially if it is your first time.

Tips:

  • This hike is best to do in the morning. The path up is on the western side of the mountain and is very exposed. So if you're planning to do this in the afternoon, be prepared to have the sun on you the whole way up.

  • If you find that the climb is too much for you, there is a loop track at the base of the mountain that is quite beautiful and showcases some lovely views of the surrounds without having to make it to the top.

  • Don't dislodge rocks! And be aware of rockfall. The way up is not winding and for the most part is just one straight path up. This means if a rock is dislodged by a climber near the top, its in direct line to collide with anyone on the way down. Common courtesy is if you do accidentally dislodge a rock of any size, shout loud and clear to the climbers below.

  • There is a 'caves' route up the eastern side of the Mountain. Climbing gear required if you like your life, lol. I have never attempted this route and probably never will unless I'm with a guide. But for the veteran rock climbers, do your own research and you will probably have a great time.

2. Mount Ngungun

This is probably the most popular and most touristy one of them all, but for good reason! This mountain hike is easy to navigate, with well maintained paths and wooden railings for most of it. A small scramble at the end but very manageable. Be prepared for LOTS of people sharing the path with you if you are planning to do this on the weekend or in the holidays.

AS OF JULY 2024 this track is closed indefinitely, until the risk of rockfall is reduced.

  1. Mount Tibberoowuccum

This one is an absolute hidden gem! Hands down my favourite Glasshouse mountain, with an unreal view of Mount Tibrogargan and 360 degree views at top. Best way to navigate this one is with the AllTrails app. There are no signs at this one so you will need GPS to know where the start of the track is. The path up is quite easy, the only rock scrambling is right near the end. Best place to park is on the side of the road opposite the gate at the starting point of the hike, otherwise there is a carpark just down the road signposted for Mount Tibrogargan.
